Madame Marthe X―Bordeaux

Madame Marthe X―Bordeaux

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
1900. Oil on canvas. 90 × 80.3 cm. Ohara Museum of Art, Kurashiki, Japan.

Painted during Lautrec’s residency in Bordeaux in late 1900, near the end of his life. The sitter was Madame Marthe, an acquaintance from Bordeaux society. In his final working period, Lautrec shifted away from thin peinture à l'essence on cardboard toward broader oil application on canvas, maintaining his sharp psychological capture without flattering idealization.
