Documenting the bohemian nightlife of Montmartre, this work shows two women waltzing together on the dance floor of the Moulin Rouge. The figures in the foreground depict the cabaret dancer and clowness Cha-U-Kao dancing with a female companion, while iconic dancer Jane Avril is visible in red on the right. The composition features Toulouse-Lautrec's signature sharp perspective cropping and expressive fluid oil technique on raw board.
